15.Spain:

The Hondarribia Connections

Since their entrance in the European Parliament in 2004, the Spanish Greens saw a severe decline, ending in its’ splitting up in three parts.

A movement born in local sections, persuaded that the problems are due to personal differences only, has been trying to bring back unity since last Summer. Named after the Basque town of Hondarribia near the French border where they first met, the grassroots Greens have persuaded the rivalling factions to organise a joint conference - in March - intended to repair the cracks and launch a joint European list.

If the conference is a success, a campaign will be organised of which cross border actions will be an important part. The partnerships already have been identified  the Euskadi, Aragonese and Catalan Greens will look for partners in France, those of Galicia for joint actions with Portuguese Greens.

During the third Hondarribia conference, even the new generation was invited to participate in the reunification.
