Our People in Brussels

With 55 seats the 46 Greens form, together with 7 members of the European Free Alliance and two independents, the Greens-EFA in the European Parliament. Since the last European Elections they are the fourth largest group, after Christian (264), and social democrats (184) and liberals (84) and ahead of conservatives (54) and radical left (35). They more than recovered from 2004 when, due to ’9/11′, they fell back to 36 members and a fifth position.

Although new EU member states recently saw quite a few Green surprises (in the Czech Republic and Latvia Greens were or are even in government), due to high thresholds all Green MEP’s  still come from the old EU.
