Quick Guide for parties
to implement the individual supportership of the EGP
To take away fears of political enemies entering through the European backdoor, a resolution was adopted giving the parties the right to decide whom they admit. Yet only a minority of parties has opened registration. Because uncertainty about the exact rules and procdures might be the main reason, here’s a quick guide. For the rules, see the registration page. The procedure is explained here.
1. Green Light
In some parties, a decision of the executive board may be sufficient, on others the party congress needs to agree.
2. Registration
An online registration form on the party website is quite easy to install – see for examples Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and GroenLinks. The advantage is, that anyone can register any time. But they can easily miss it. Including a registration card in the party magazine or membership renewal is every now and then is more effective – GroenLinks collected almost 1000 supporters adding a card before the European elections of 2004.
3. Administration
The only data the EGP secretariat needs for providing the supporters with regular news and announcements, is a list of @ddresses, preferably in excel, updated every two to 6 months.
4. Payment
The other element needed is a transfer of the fees, which have been set at a minimum of 12 Euros a year. The parties are responsible for collecting them from their supporters, and should transfer at least as many times 12 Euro’s as @ddresses to the EGP secretariat once a year. The money will be used to facilitate the activities of the EGP Supporters’ Network, which co-operates closely with the EGP.
