What future for the European Green Party?

The Future of the European Green Party: what do supporters think?

by Remco van der Stoep (GPEW, London)

The EGP is reflecting on its future. This year, a working group will meet several times to discuss what the EGP should be like and how it should change to achieve this. The first meeting is on Sunday, 31 January. The Supporters’ Network will participate in the process and send a delegate to the meeting. For this meeting and the remainder of the process, the Supporters’ Network aims to gather your views on the EGP: how do you think it can make the most of Green politics in Europe?

In a workshop the previous afternoon, we will be talking about what the EGP is for, what it should be doing, how the party should be organised, and how it should work together with others, such as the Green Group in the European Parliament, the national Green parties and – in particular – individual Greens across Europe.

You will get a short introduction about the European Green Party and the discussion paper that the EGP Committee has tabled to prepare the work. The people who are coordinating the contributions of the Network will share some early thinking with the participants. In the remainder of the workshop, they will be listening to your comments and ideas. By the end of the workshop it should be clear what the most important issues for EGP supporters are. We will attempt to list the things you agree on, so that these can be at the centre of the supporters’ input in Sunday’s EGP working group.
