Remco van der Stoep

Dear fellow supporters,

My name is Remco and I want to join the Coordination Team of the EGP Supporters’ Network. A lot of hard work has been put into the supporters’ scheme over the last five years and more, resulting in the Supporters’ Network being an official part of the EGP. This is something to be proud of, but also something that needs a lot more work, because in a way we’re only at the start of things. The European Green Party wants to be more than a federation of national parties, therefore it has created the option for individuals to become supporters. Its success has been variable and the time has come for many European Greens to realise that we must take the next step.

What does that mean? The EGP needs more supporters, in more countries, and they need to find their place within the party. These are some of the main challenges for the EGP and especially for the Coordination Team of the Supporters’ Network. I would be honoured and proud if you allow me to be part of that team. In return, I commit to building a strong working relationship with the EGP Committee, to persuading national parties to inform their members about the supportership, and to develop inspiring ways for supporters to engage in European Green politics.

Having been closely involved with the supporters’ network over the past five years, I have developed a good understanding of the European Green Party. I have spoken about the EGP and the individual supporters to many people from a great number of Green parties. Together with some of the members of the current Coordination Team, I was involved in organising many of the activities the network has carried out so far, including ‘Heerlen’ meetings, fringe meetings at EGP Councils and ‘Heerlen on Tour’.

I am looking forward to continuing my efforts as part of the new Coordination Team.
