Stop Radioactive Waste Train
Today a train carrying radioactive waste is leaving the Netherlands, en route to La Hague in France. It will pass through cities like Roosendaal, Antwerp, Gent, Lille and Rouen. The mayor of Gent, Daniel Tremont, did not want the convoy to go through his city, but his protests were rejected by the court yesterday.
According to Greenpeace, the amount of radioactive material in the train is comparable to the amount of Tsjernobyl. There will be ten more of these transports over the next two years. Greenpeace claims that reprocessing the waste is a dangerous and polluting process, and unnecessary: only 4% can be ‘recycled’ and be re-used as fuel.
You can help to prevent these transports! Go to “Nuclear, Dead End Road“ and (virtually) stop this train. For more information and the train’s itineray, go to Greenpeace Belgium.
