5th Declaration of Hondarribia – Movement for Unified Green Activism in Spain

Hondarribia tries to unite and revive green political action in Spain and the Spanish regions. It has recently published its fifth declaration.
By Ditte Gurack
The movement Hondarribia was founded in the eponymous Basque city of Hondarribia in June 2008. It is grounded on the belief that what separates the green Spanish parties and splits the movement are not conflicting opinions but mere personal and local discords. Hondarribia worked to create a network of activists. Its shared values are participation, peaceful treatment, egalitarianism, pluralism, transparency and consensus.
The fifth declaration reaffirms these purposes and promotes a platform to organise the Coordinadora Verde. The Coordinadora Verde embodies an open space for all green (and green akin) groups and parties on the national, regional or local level. One very important goal is to present a reunited and motivated party for the next elections in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
The hondarribian Greens will participate in the organisation of the green reunion on January 29 and 30 in Madrid, when Spain will take over the presidency of the EU. It also wants to be part of the European Green Party’s conference in Barcelona on March 20 and 21.
Moreover two get-togethers will take place this year to discuss ecological and municipal politics, theory and future ideas. The first will be a conference about ecology. This will take place in the end of the first semester. The second get-together will be the second Summer University (also H 6.0) in Navarra in the end of July. This will focus on local activism. The Coordinadora Verde should be spread in a wider space through the green basis to strengthen the political green activities on regional (autonomous) level.
Hondarribia is pleased with the growing participation in the process from different groups and it invites all Greens to take part.
More information can be found on the website of the Coordinadora Verde.

The only serious and responsible convergence of the green movement in Spain is favored and protected by the work of the members of the Coordinadora Verde from the Hondarribia process, the authentic and legitimate descendant and depository of the Comunicado de Tenerife (1983) and of the foundation of the Los Verdes party (Tenerife 1984):
