‘Rhein-Waal Zentral’: protect nature on both sides of the Border

Kranenburg – Broad fields, authentic woodland, the Rhine at Sunset and scattered farms: the Lower Rhine area hosts numerous spots or beauty and relaxation and rest resorts. With a cross bord cooperation ‘Rhein Waal Zentral’ (Focus on Rhine Waal) the Greens from Kleve (Ge), Kranenburg (Ge), Nijmegen and Groesbeek (Nl) hope to protect the them better and open the region for soft toursm, they told the press in the (momentarily disused) station of Kranenburg, the Rheinische Post and the Neue Rhein Zeitung report. The Greens criticised the EU sponsored concentration in agriculture pushing small farmers out of business and leading to environmentally poor monocultures.

The Greens will continue their cooperation after the European elections, dr Arthur Leenders from Klevesaid. They intend to create opportunities for the region by focussing on its strong landscape points, using Euregional funds more effectively. One of their first targets will be the re-opening of the Nijmegen-Kleve railway line – probably as a light rail connection. Another is the creation of a Rhine – Waal Regional Park after the model of the Schwalm-Nette Park.
