Solarise your house through Google Maps

Check the potential of your house for solar energy through Google Maps: this interesting campaign tool developed by the Greens from Unna in the German state of North Rhine Westfalia (NRW), was sent to us by Patrick Kopischke (NRW Greens). ‘Basically you select your house through Google Maps’, he writes. ‘Give a few more informations and the tool calculates the orientation of your house, the dimensions of the roof and the subsidies you can profit from according to German legislation.
‘Maybe this campaign could be transformed into a cross-border campaign’, Kopischke states. ‘It is probably pretty easy to adapt for Belgium and/or the Netherlands. As far as I am informed, the costs amount to a few hundred Euros – and can even be raised by sponsoring, as in Unna. The local Greens have asked regional companies installing solar collectors to sponsor the costs, and got positive responses.’
The tool would be especially interesting for us, Greens from NRW, says Kopischke, ‘as we will probably have municipal and European elections Click at the video or go to the Unna Greens site (sorry, still only in German) and tell us what you think!
