German opening for EGP Supportership

The party conference of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen in Dortmund last weekend didn’t only elect the European candidates. Apart from a really friendly welcome for the Dutch delegation and really inspiring speeches from high quality candidates, it contained some positive news for our crossborder project. The party board of Bündnis 90Die Grünen is getting more favourable towards the individual supportership of the EGP. And Henk Nijhof, leader of the Dutch Greens, has been enthusiastically promoting cross border campaigning on his blog.

During an EGP supporters’ meeting attended by 20, the German party treasurer told us that there are openings for the supporters’ scheme at staff level: advertising the scheme and even lowering the fees (now at 48 euro’s) may be possible.

And the Dutch party leader Henk Nijhof wrote in his weblog, referring to the Landes-, European and national elections that all take place in Germany this year: ‘I would welcome if we could campaign together with our collegues at the other side of the German (and Belgian) border. It seems obvious to do that during the European elections, but why not also do so in September, during their national elections? Why not have a stall with their material and/or people in Emmen, Enschede, Arnhem, Venlo and so on?’
